The stableford competition involved teams of six players in different handicap bands, with the four best scores to count. Cambs and Hunts were represented by Ella Mason (Ely City) (Handicap 0-9), Anna Guest and Lucy Pepper (Gogs) (Handicap 10-15), Olivia Dyson (Barkway Park) and Eleanor Gamble (Ely City) (Handicap 16-24) and Alex Sparrow (Saffron Walden) (Handicap 25-30).
The course provided a tough challenge with several blind holes and tricky greens. The competition got under way in chilly and cloudy conditions, but as the day wore on it became sunny and warm. None of the girls had played the course before and this caused problems when playing the blind holes. The four best scores gave a team score of 121 and Cambs and Hunts finished in last place. The team’s best score of 36 was produced by Saffron Walden’s Alex Sparrow.
Hertfordshire won the competition with a score of 158 with last year’s winners Norfolk in second place with a score of 143.
