In the first major County Golf competition of the season Tabitha Brain (Gogs) put in a solid performance to regain the Margery Newport Trophy. Ely City hosted the competition and the course provided the players with a stiff challenge with a blustery wind and slick greens. Tabitha produced a solid round of 83 to claim the Margery Newport Trophy, with Ely City’s Tina Broadley second with a gross score of 86.
In the nett competition Ely City’s Christine Ratcliffe took top spot with an excellent score of 76. Julie Stephenson (Gogs) took second place with a score of 77 with Linda Brown (Bourn) third with 78 on countback from Sue Didlick and Julie Aspinall (both Ely City).
During the afternoon foursomes the conditions worsened and the players had to cope with two heavy showers of hailstones. County Captain Marcella Tuttle and Sarah Greenall (Links) just edged home with a score of 31 points. Second place went to Ely City’s Sharon Chatteris and Greta Barclay with 30 points on countback from Sue Didlick and Julie Aspinall (Ely City) in third place on countback from Fay Allison and Pam Lammiman (Brampton Park).
