County Match Week

2018 County Match Week

County Captain: Marcella Tuttle – Assistant Captain: Sarah Greenall

Monday 18 June – Friday 22 June at Woodbridge GC, Suffolk

Report from County Captain, Marcella Tuttle

Who would have thought this time last year I would be reporting that we beat Hertfordshire, Suffolk and Bedfordshire in the 2018 East Region County Week! First time we have won a match since 2013! It took the surprise arrival of a Curtis Cup player from Essex on Thursday to take us down!

We had a wonderful week at Woodbridge and the players really did Cambs & Hunts proud. The team spirit was amazing and everyone really enjoyed the experience.  Thanks must go to our President, Maureen Mansfield who made sure we were fed and watered on the course each day and Paula Ewing, our Vice Captain for assisting Maureen and keeping us all motivated with her infectious enthusiasm. Also thanks to Sarah Greenall for being a great Assistant Captain especially for being my sounding board for the many decisions required during the week.

Our President Maureen Mansfield commented: “It was certainly one of the best CMW’s I have enjoyed for many years, and I was very proud to be your President. Everyone played so well, and although it was disappointing we could not get over the final hurdle but we can ALL be very proud of our achievements during the week. The atmosphere was great and if we can keep the squad together the future looks very bright indeed for Cambs & Hunts.”

Huge thanks must go to all the caddies who so ably helped the players and not forgetting the supporters who cheered us on and watched such a wonderful display of golf.

Thanks also to all our Facebook supporters who were eagerly awaiting our morning and afternoon results, spurring us on with their feedback. It really does make a huge difference knowing there are so many CHLCGA members out there rooting for us to do well. Some commented it was so exciting it was better than the Ryder Cup and the football World Cup!

We have come on leaps and bounds over the last year and it was very touching hearing the captain’s from the other counties congratulating us and wishing us luck. We now need to build on our success and WIN at Aspley Guise in 2019.

Congratulations to Ella Mason and Emily Slater who received their county colours having won 4 matches in their time in the 1st team.

This is my final year as captain and it’s been an honour and privilege to be County Captain of Cambs & Hunts. I’m sure you will give your full support to Paula Ewing next year. I have no doubt that she will build on from this year’s success.

Finally, I thought I’d share with you a few comments I’ve had from past County Captains on our week:

“I just wanted to say what a wonderful performance by you, the players and all the team of helpers. You must be so proud. Please pass on my congratulations to everyone.”

Rosemary Farrow, County Captain 1992 and 2003

“Very well done to you and your team at Woodbridge. It is a great achievement to make second place and great to see the youngsters do so well. The experience is invaluable and hopefully they can build on that for the future.”

Polly Brown, County Captain 1986

“A great fighting result from the team. It would be brilliant if most are still around next year.”

Jan Stockham, County Captain 1989
